A Mother's Pain

"Youth fades; love droops, the leaves of friendship fall; A mother's secret hope outlives them all."

Oliver Wendell Holmes

A Mother's Pain
On a recent Veterans Day, a mother of a deceased Vietnam veteran was visiting her son's grave.  She kneeled down to place a picture of him on the tombstone.  First one tear and then another began to pour down her face, and as she wiped away the tears she said, "they still don't appreciate your sacrifice".

Nightly Televised War
The Vietnam War play nightly on the evening news.  Reports of American wounded or dead were broadcast long before the families were notified of the deaths.  Every night every single mother who had a son or daughter in Vietnam experienced the unbearable pain of losing their child over and over again, month in and month out.

How Many More?
Each year more and more of these mothers, members of what many call the greatest generation, pass away and we forever lose the opportunity to let them know that America does appreciate their sacrifice and that of their Vietnam Veteran sons and daughters.
