LOS ANGELES, CA – JULY 26, 2000 – "Welcome Home Day," (WHD), a grassroots campaign to honor all Vietnam veterans, is a one-time national event proposed for 2003 in Washington D.C. Kenneth Doyle, Founder and Executive Director of the Welcome Home Day Foundation (WHDF) (www.welcomehomeday.org), who started the campaign from his California apartment, has garnered the support of twenty-three state governors to date.

Doyle said the event is in the planning stages, but added that in addition to honoring the veterans, it will acknowledge the families of Vietnam veterans for what they, too, have had to endure. Doyle said, "This event is about family. It’s about a family that was torn apart during the Vietnam War; a family called America."

Doyle, who never served in the military, said he was motivated to start a national campaign to honor Vietnam veterans and their families when, on a recent Veterans Day, he read the story about the mother of a Vietnam veteran who, speaking to her son’s grave with tears streaming down her face said, "They never appreciated your sacrifice." Doyle realized the sacrifice was hers too, and that an enormous amount of pain still exists today – not only for Vietnam veterans – but also for their families.

The Welcome Home Day Foundation is a grassroots non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded by non-veterans. Its mission is to stage a spectacular one-time national event where the people of the United States join together to finally reconcile their differences over the Vietnam war, acknowledge the families of Vietnam veterans for their loses and pain and to give Vietnam veterans their long overdue Welcome Home.
