ARIZONA PROCLAMATION
|
WHEREAS, the United States, and in particular, the men and women of our Armed Forces endured long and most difficult mission which officially began on August 5, 1964 and ended on May 7, 1975; and WHEREAS, during that period of time 9,200,000 personnel from the United States Armed Forces were participants, of which 109,000 of those participants lost their lives and 613 of those who lost their lives were citizens from the State of Arizona; and WHEREAS, today there are over 600,000 Vietnam Veterans residing in the State of Arizona; whose lives and the lives of their friends and families were ultimately affected with a myriad of emotions, complex personal conflicts, lost hopes, lost friends, lost loves and even careers; and WHEREAS, all patriotic citizens and, especially, the Vietnam Veteran community of this State, along with families and friends, appreciate and remember those Americans who served and fought, those who are missing, those who were wounded and those who died during this era; and WHEREAS, the Vietnam Veterans desire public recognition of these sacrifices, advocate the commemoration of the United States' involvement in Vietnam, and hereby reaffirm their dedication to duty, honor and courage as fellow Vietnam combat veterans; and WHEREAS, the people and the State of Arizona, in conjunction with the Welcome Home Day Foundation acknowledges the courage, sacrifice, and positive achievements of our nation's Vietnam Veterans and their families, and firmly represent that we proudly welcome them home; HOW, THEREFORE, I, Jane Dee Hull, Governor of this State of Arizona, do hereby proclaim October 20, 2000 as WELCOME HOME DAY IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State of Arizona Jane Dee Hull DONE at the Capitol in Phoenix on this twenty-third day of April in the year Two Thousand and of the Independence of the United States of America the Two Hundred and Twenty-forth.
