MASSACHUSETTS PROCLAMATION

By His Excellency GOVERNOR ARGEO PAUL CELLUCCI 2000 WHEREAS: Members of the Armed Forces of the United States stationed in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War served our nation under the most trying conditions, at a time when the nation was divided in its support; and WHEREAS: The men and women who served in the Armed Forces during the Vietnam War were equal to their counterparts in other wars by all measures of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism; and WHEREAS: The exemplary performance of Americans who served during the Vietnam War reflected the highest standards of bravery and courage; and WHEREAS: The sacrifices of all these men and women deserve our steadfast recognition and praise; and WHEREAS: Since their return, these veterans have contributed tremendously to their communities, states, and nation, in an effort to advance the American ideals and aims for which they fought; andWHEREAS: March 29' is the anniversary of the total withdrawal of United States forces from Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos; WHEREAS: More than two thousand Americans who served in the Vietnam War remain unaccounted for; andWHEREAS: Veterans of the Vietnam War continue to be victimized by the controversy surrounding that war; NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARGEO PAUL CELLUCCI, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in accordance with Chapter 244 of the Acts of 1979 of the General Laws, do hereby proclaim March 29h, 2000, to be VIETNAM VETERANS DAY and urge the citizens of the Commonwealth to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance. Given at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this eighth day of March, in the year of our Lord two thousand, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the two hundred and twenty-fourth.
