MONTANA PROCLAMATION
| July 5, 2000
Mr. Kenneth J. Doyle III Dear Mr. Doyle: Thank you for your letter suggesting I join with other governors in proclaiming October 20 as Welcome Home Day for Vietnam Veterans. As you know, our office does not issue proclamations. However, having served in the Army, I do wish you and the Welcome Home Day Foundation well with your project and assure you that Montanans are well attuned to military issues. I am pleased to acknowledge the courage, sacrifice, and positive achievements of our nation's Vietnam veterans and their families, and to welcome them home. During the conflict, over 300,000 soldiers were wounded, 75,000 disabled, and 58,000 killed. Thousands spent time in prison camps, and 268 Montanans paid the ultimate price. Your efforts are appreciated; good luck with your endeavors. Marc Racicot |
