We are

| WHEREAS, |
members of the armed forces of the United States stationed in
Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War served our nation under
the most trying conditions, at a time when the nation was
divided in its support; and
|
| WHEREAS, |
more than 300,000 service members were wounded in Vietnam,
approximately 75,000 were severely disabled and of
the 58,000
killed, 882 were from the state of Louisiana; and
|
| WHEREAS, |
since their return, these veterans have contributed tremendously
to their communities, states, and nation, in an effort to advance
the American ideals and aims for which they fought; and
|
| WHEREAS, |
we, as citizens of the state of Louisiana, must never forget the
pain and suffering that lingers todav for the men and women
who fought, with honor and distinction, in the name of freedom
and democracy for all; and
|
| WHEREAS, |
October 20. 2000. has been set aside as a day to pay tribute to
and to welcome home our sons and daughters who have
contributed to the security of the United States through
honorable military service in Vietnam; and
|
| WHEREAS, |
the
people
of
the
state
of
Louisiana,
in
conjunction
with
the
Welcome
Home
Day
Foundation,
acknowledge
the
courage,
sacrifice,
honor,
and
positive
achievements
of
our
nation's
Vietnam
veterans
and
their
families,
and
firmly
represent
that
we
proudly
welcome
them
home.

NOW,
THEREFORE,
I,
M.J. "Mike" Foster, Jr., Governor of the state of Louisiana, do hereby
