State
of Rhode Island
and Providence
Plantations
GUBERNATORIAL
PROCLAMATION
Whereas,
on
this, the 25th
Anniversary of the end
of the Vietnam War, we
honor those veterans who
gave their full measure
of devotion to the cause
of liberty, justice and
freedom; and,
Whereas,
over
300,000 men were
wounded. 75,000 severely
disabled, and of the
58,000 killed, 207 were
from the State of Rhode
Island; and,
Whereas,
the Welcome Home Day
Foundation, founded by a
non-veteran, is a
non-profit public
benefit and educational
foundation. Their
mission is to educate
the general public as to
the untrue stereotypes
of the Vietnam veteran,
correct these
stereotypes, and have a
one-time national event
where we as a nation
finally welcome them
home; and,
Whereas,
during the month of
October 2000, the
Welcome Home Day
Foundation wants to
remind the people of the
State of Rhode Island
and the country as to
the struggles, grief,
pain and sacrifices
these veterans and their
families made in the
respect of the ideals
which made this country
great; and,
Whereas,
the people of the
State of Rhode Island,
in conjunction with the
Welcome Home Day
Foundation, acknowledge
the courage, sacrifice,
honor and positive
achievements of our
nation's Vietnam
veterans and their
families, and firmly
represent that we
proudly welcome them
home;
NOW, THEREFORE, 1,
LINCOLN ALMOND, GOVERNOR
OF THE STATE OF RHODE
ISLAND AND PROVIDENCE
PLANTATIONS, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM,
October
2000
as
Vietnam
Veterans Appreciation
Month
in the State of Rhode
Island and encourage all
of its citizens to join
me in recognizing this
very important month.
