Story: "The First Time"

Dear Daddy, This will be the first time I have visited you.  Sorry it wasn't sooner.  Gee your name looks so young on that granite wall, but of course you were young when you died.  I have heard the stories, the good ones and the bad ones, but no matter what I am proud of you.  What you did for us and the whole world.  I would have hugged you and kissed you not spit on you or called you names.  Mama couldn't come with me, she was too afraid.  She is still proud...give her time.  She won't remarry, she says you are still with her.  I feel you too.  I wear your dog tag all the time and wonder what you were like.  I am leaving a picture of me and mama next to the Wall...along with my Graduation Cap and this letter.  I am very proud of you daddy, welcome home.
